SWINGING wildly from awful to sublime, Torchwood is classic British television.
The Doctor Who spin-off sees Scots actor John Barrowman play Captain Jack Harkness, leader of a team of extra-terrestrial investigators, based in Cardiff.
The first episode sees policewoman Gwen Cooper, played by Eve Myles, joining the team, which includes medic Owen (Burn Gorman) and computer whizz Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori).
The group soon discover Torchwood, an underground HQ which boasts, among other things, its very own pterodactyl.
Episodes feature an alien which is addicted to sex and a Cyberwoman. While derived from Doctor Who (Torchwood being an anagram of the mother programme), it is much darker and is peppered with sex.
