Captain Jack meets his sci-fi namesake on the gallops

Actor Barrowman - alias Captain Jack of hit shows Dr Who and Torchwood – has visited top racehorse trainer John Best to meet a horse named after his sci-fi hero.
“Hucking Harkness” – a two-year-old thoroughbred - is named for his time and space travelling character Captain Jack Harkness.
They watched the horse show its paces over to the gallops, a half-mile uphill training track.. The crew from Doctor Who Confidential was also on hand to cover the meeting for a forthcoming episode of BBC3’s behind-the-scenes documentary on Doctor Who. The Hucking Horses syndicate, involving five horses and twenty partners, is named for the village of Hucking from which John Best trains.
John Best explains, “We were discussing the Hucking Horses and this colt stood out as a tricky one to name.
“Somebody mentioned Doctor Who, and from there we reached Captain Jack – and Hucking Harkness was born.” John Barrowman - set to return to Dr Who in the current se-ries - added: “I really enjoyed meeting Hucking Harkness – he’s a great-looking horse, and I think he liked me.
“I'll definitely be following his races, and I'm hoping to be able to see him run later in the year.”
