Torchwood comes to Radio 4

Team Torchwood is slated to make an appearance on Radio 4 this summer. The 45-minute show, airing as Radio 4's Afternoon Play, has been written by Joseph Lidster (A Day In The Death) and will feature the voices of John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd and Freema Agyeman. Recorded in March, the story will be transmitted on Radio 4 as part of a day's programming dedicated to the CERN project, expected to air in June or July. According to an interview in Torchwood Magazine with writer Joseph Lidster, Martha calls the team while investigating strange goings-on at the CERN nuclear facility in Switzerland, leading to Torchwood's very first international adventure! The story will be the first time that Torchwood has not featured Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori, though Lidster says their characters Owen and Tosh, who died at the end of series two, do have a part to play in the story."But the story isn’t about death," says Lidster, "and I think it will appeal to those Radio 4 listeners who don't usually watch Torchwood, as well as the fans."

Radio times blurb confirms martha is engaged

Fans see stars film Dr Who special

Actor David Morrissey has appeared on set alongside David Tennant as the pair filmed the next Doctor Who Christmas special.

Dozens of fans gathered in the grounds of Gloucester Cathedral to catch a glimpse of the stars of the popular BBC sci-fi show.

College Green was covered with artificial snow for the scene in which mourners in Victorian costume marched in front of a horse-drawn cart carrying a coffin.

Tennant was dressed in the Doctor's trademark ankle-length brown coat, while Morrissey was in kitted out in full period garb - a tan knee-length jacket and red waistcoat.

A security guard sat in front of the Tardis, which was tucked down a nearby alleyway, covered by a white sheet.

Tennant waved to the crowds as the crew prepared the intricate set and covered the surrounding historic buildings with fake snow.

Secrecy surrounds the Christmas episode's storyline, but it's believed to feature the Cybermen - the Doctor's deadliest enemies.

Digital Spy posts real/fake spoilers for The Sontaran Stratagem

Wahey! A two-parter! An old enemy returns! It's hard to judge a story solely on the merits of its opening half, but 'The Sontaran Stratagem' is certainly more focussed than the meandering likes of 'Daleks in Manhattan' and 'Rise of the Cybermen'. Anyway, the full, mostly positive review will be online straight after Saturday's episode, so in the meantime here are a few spoilers to keep you going - with two red herrings chucked into the mix:

Both the Ood and the Adipose make a surprise appearance.

Wilf has been put on a macrobiotic diet.

When The Doctor first reunites with Martha and learns that she is now a Doctor, he sings the chorus from the song 'Dr Jones' by Aqua to her. She is not impressed and calls him 'Mr Cheese'.

The Sontarans discuss their involvement in the Time War.

The Doctor berates a child genius over his decision not to deploy the conditional clause in conversation.

A Sontaran leader is called a 'baked potato' by a human.

The Doctor displays his squash skills - much to the annoyance of a Sontaran. It's not just cricket the Time Lord excels at.

Someone experiences death by Sat Nav.

Rose Tyler is briefly glimpsed for a couple of seconds when she emerges from the slime after being cloned by the Sontarans.

Mirror rumors

Dr Who monsters in the know??

Do the Ood know something we don't? Seems to me the aliens will drop a clue about the future of David Tennant as Dr Who in this Saturday's episode.

One of the monsters - talking through a mouth full of tentacles - asks the Doctor to sing with them and, when he declines, says "I think your song must end soon."

My sources say the Time Lord regenerates in the Christmas 2009 special. But maybe the Ood know better...

Planet of the Ood Preview

Thursday, April 17, 2008

The synopsis for 4.5: The Poison Sky is now online.

4.5: The Poison Sky

The Sontarans activate their masterplan and begin to choke the whole of planet Earth, as Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-travelling drama continues.

UNIT is left defenceless, with a traitor in their ranks. And as interplanetary war edges closer, the Doctor has to fight to keep both Martha and Donna alive – but will he have to make the ultimate sacrifice?

David Tennant plays the Doctor and Catherine Tate plays his companion, Donna Noble. Freema Agyeman and Christopher Ryan guest star.

4.5: The Poison Sky airs on Saturday 3rd May, Time TBC.

The important bit in this is the TRAITOR part. I am convinced it will be the clone of dear old martha freshly risen out of the green goo we saw here in in the long series preview. And again the sontarans are added to the list of "wanna make earth a home for their CHILDREN" aliens. Can't wait to see if im right!!!!

Eve Myles on Radio Wales

Eve Myles is known for fighting aliens in her Torchwood role as Gwen Cooper and on Saturday 19 April she reveals her love of the more down to earth sport of boxing on BBC Radio Wales.

Eve, who also stars in BBC Wales hit drama Belonging, hosts a special evening of programmes on Radio Wales in the run-up to the Joe Calzaghe v Bernard Hopkins Las Vegas Light Heavyweight title fight on Saturday in Calzaghe Fight Night (Saturday 19 April, 6.30pm).

The Torchwood and Belonging star says her love of boxing comes from her family. "It's been passed down to me from my father and my brother who have been huge boxing fans," says Eve.

"My brother's done a fair bit of boxing himself although nothing on a professional level. But boxing has always been something in the family. Boxing has always been a big talking point and a big event in our house and I think Joe Calzaghe has really brought that to the forefront."

Eve also admits to dabbling in the art of boxing herself: "I did a bit when I was young. I broke my knuckles and I did it no more! I wasn't hitting anybody by the way – it was a punch bag."

Her role in Torchwood as Gwen Cooper involves a lot of action, so Eve is aware of the amount of effort that goes into any extreme physical pursuit.

"It's a very physical programme and that's why I love doing Torchwood – you get to do all these outlandish things and be safe at the same time," says Eve. "You're not going to get hit, you're not going to get hurt, well hopefully – thankfully it hasn't happened yet."

A big Calzaghe fan, Eve believes he stands a good chance against Hopkins on Saturday:

"I think he's got every chance in the world. He's one of the strongest boxers we've ever sent out there and I think that with the support and love of Wales behind him he can do no wrong. All he can do is his best, whatever happens on the night the outcome is that the Welsh will still be proud of him for going out there and representing us."

Eve has just one message for Joe on the night: "Go get him boy!"

S04E03: 'Planet Of The Ood' digital spy article

'Planet Of The Ood' certainly packs an emotional punch, so have hankies on standby when you settle down to watch it. Comfortably the best episode of the fourth season, the story contains many Holocaust parallels and boasts a superbly ambiguous performance from Tim McInnerny as the follicularly challenged villain. What else is in store? Here are a few hints, with three added red herrings for you to have oodles of fun working out.

The Doctor and Donna visit the second great and bountiful human empire.

The Tardis coordinates are set to random.

The Ood should be holding something organic instead of translators in their hands.

Girls Aloud perform a song called 'Something Kind Of Ood' in order to boost sales of Ood livestock.

Donna refers to an Ood translation device as a 'Persil Ball'.

A possessed Ood tells Donna that she has something on her back and can sense crystals from the planet Metebelis 3.

Donna tells a PR woman about the Noble Corporation PLC Ltd Intergalactic branch.

The Doctor reckons he owes the Ood a favour after their previous encounter.

The Doctor and Donna have a snowball fight.

One of the Ood makes a verbal reference to cartoon show The Simpsons.

Dervla Kirwan lands role in Doctor Who?

Dervla Kirwan is reportedly set to star in the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special.

The Ballykissangel actress has been spotted on the set of the smash-hit sci-fi series in Cardiff, where the one-off episode is being filmed, The Sun reports.

And it seems that the Doctor, played by David Tennant, will face some old enemies - the Cybermen are due to return for the feature-length episode, which is believed to have a Victorian theme.

Locals spotted the steel men on location in a graveyard in Newport, Wales, the paper said.

The news has sparked speculation that the 36-year-old Dervla will return as the Doctor's full-time assistant if Catherine Tate vacates the Tardis in this season's finale.

Doctor Who's head writer, Russell T Davies, has confirmed that the franchise will return in 2009 Doctor Who with three specials starring Tennant.

The full-length fifth series will transmit in 2010.

Lizo reviews third episode of Dr Who

Oooooh dear. The Ood are back, and they're not happy.

Which is odd, because they're famous throughout the galaxy as peaceful, helpful servants who are eager to serve.

But when the Doctor and Donna arrive on the Ood's home planet, they discover a few are fighting back. And spurred on by Donna, The Doctor is determined to find out why the Ood are the way they are.

This episode is both beautiful and horrifying. And in the same way that last year's Gridlock was about faith and believing in something, this story is about choices. And what's right and what's wrong.

Read the rest HERE.

On "Fires of Pompeii"

Much much better episode, donna was more tolerable and less bitchy, she is returning{squeeeeeeeee}!!!! ok the medusa cascade is mentioned once again and another planet was "taken" by a force unknown but i think important as this may be or seem to be this season is really based around one thing. Children, well that or family to a lesser degree, but children have figured so noticeably in these first two episodes, adipose and pyroviles trying to reproduce. And jenny is on her way so soon so soon.
Oh and look big red eyed ood are on their way!!!! sweeeeeeeeet!

Barrowman criticises "grumpy" Eccleston

John Barrowman has claimed that Christopher Eccleston was "grumpy" on the set of Doctor Who.

The actor, who plays Captain Jack Harkness on the BBC One sci-fi hit, admitted that he did not enjoy spending time with Eccleston when they worked together on the programme.

Eccleston took on the role of The Doctor for one series, which aired in 2005. He was replaced by David Tennant, who is currently starring in his third series.

"Chris was always grumpy. You don't always have to be intense. There comes a point when intensity makes you miserable - I think that was the case with Chris," Barrowman told the Daily Record. "I much prefer working with David - he likes to have a bit more fun, he's more charismatic as a person.

"Chris might have been a great Doc but he was darker and had a chip on his shoulder, he was not as much fun on set as David. I will give him the credit that he was the first Doctor to bring back the series and made a damn good job of it.

"But I just wouldn't go to the pub with him. On the other hand, David's been to my house, we went to the Madonna concert with our partners - we socialise together. He's a lot more fun."

Putting on her ood face?

In the preview for "Fires of pompeii" the daughters or sisters of vulcan or whatever they are to be called are doing a ritual of some kind and they paint there faces and skin. In the pic below they show eyes painted on the back of the hands also. It really looks like ood eyes doesnt it? Is this a tie in or lead up to the next episode "Planet of the ood" ?

Atmos spotted early on

In the photo above you can see an "Atmos" sticker on the cab that showed up for the woman Donna was interviewing when she suddenly melted into adipose babies. "Atmos" will figure into the "The Sontaran Strategem" and "The Poison sky" episodes and perhaps the finale itself.
The episode description of TSS reads : Martha Jones summons the Doctor back to modern-day Earth, but an old enemy lies in wait, as Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-travelling drama continues. With the mysterious ATMOS devices spreading across the world, Donna discovers that even her own family is not safe from the alien threat – but is it too late to save them?
While Donna meets Martha Jones for the first time, the Doctor encounters a longtime enemy...

I do like how tubby old rusty sprinkles little bits thru the early episodes.

"Some things are fixed, some things are in flux, and Pompeii is fixed...That's how I see the universe. All the time, every waking second: what is, what was, what could be, what must not be. That's the burden of a Time Lord" sweeeeeeeeeeeet
Enjoy!!!

"The Fires of Pompeii" or The Fires of Vulcan ???

It seems the second episode of season 4 shares a great similarity with a big finish episode, The Fires of Vulcan : click the link and read an in depth synopsis of Fires with the seventh doctor and mel. Funny i really didn't like mel and i really don't like donna hmmmmmmm

LINK

The best bit of Partners in crime was...

Watching the first eppy almost reminded me of the first Sarah Jane adventures. Both had this evil woman that plots an invasion of sorts. I really dislike the new theme alot. The forced comedy of th doctor popping up in a cubicle and donna popping down and vise versa was just ewwww. Would've been a fine episode if donna hadn't shown up in it. Anyway the best bit was at the end in the video below. It was worth the whole wait just to see Rose again, even if it was only for a few seconds.....she looks pissed tho doesn't she?

"The Sarah Jane Adventures" news

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine confirms several details regarding the second series of "The Sarah Jane Adventures". There's a new producer joining the show; Nikki Smith takes over Matthew Bouch's job, as Bouch moves up to occupy the "Series Producer" role.According to Russell T Davies, "The first block consists of four episodes, to be directed by Michael Kerrigan. Michael's an old Doctor Who hand, having directed 1989's Battlefield, and was a brilliant choice to launch Series Two, so it's great to welcome him to Upper Boat."Writers for the 12 part series include Phil Ford, Gareth Roberts and Joseph Lidster. The magazine also has a look behind the scenes of 1975's "The Sontaran Experiment", in the lastest 'Fact of Fiction' feature - to tie in with the return of the Sontarans to the new series, opposite David Tennant's Doctor, in a two part adventure, "The Sontaran Stratagem" / "The Poison Sky" which airs on BBC One later this month. Also included (for anybody interested!) is a terrific Steven Moffat interview, a brand new comic strip, and a querstion & answer session with Who's current overlords Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson - which is worth a read in itself because one of my questions got published, and answered by the trio. Result!Doctor Who Magazine issue 394 is out now, priced £3.99.Elsewhere, and SFX Magazine confirms the reason why, ultimately, the BBC chose not to film the second and third seasons of the SJA together in one huge, money saving production block: "It's an easier life," Davies tells the magazine, "If we can make series two and then get a commission for series three next year and make series three." Hmmm... BBC spin, anyone? Finally, the press were granted a preview screening of the first two episodes of Doctor Who's fourth series earlier this week, which concluded with a series long trailer - and numerous journalists have confirmed the presence of Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith!Yep, she's definitely back for the finale!

Episode Nine Title Changed

The title of episode nine of the new series has been changed to Forest of the Dead.

Earlier this week, all Series Four episode names bar the penultimate one were announced in a Radio Times feature. In it, the ninth episode - the concluding instalment of this series' second two-parter - was named as River's Run, but CBBC Newsround now says it has exclusively been told of the title alteration.

The story has been written by Steven Moffat and has Alex Kingston and Colin Salmon as the guest stars.
